Around 14 African countries are visa-exempt for 90 days. Non-exempt nationalities not on Malawi's visa-on-arrival list must use the e-Visa, launched 1 November 2019; the government recommends the e-Visa to all non-exempt travellers even where on-arrival is technically available, making it the primary route in practice.
It's required for african nationalities outside the exemption and on-arrival lists.
It's optional for visa on arrival for nationalities on Malawi's separate on-arrival list.
