Do you need to apply before you fly?

A growing number of African countries now ask you to apply for entry permission online before you travel, even without a visa. Miss it and you can be turned away at boarding.

We track what each scheme actually asks for, so you can sort it out before you book, not after.

EASE pre-registration + Airport Security Tax (TSA) · since 2019-01-01

Every foreign air traveller, including the visa-exempt. Cabo Verdean nationals, people born in Cabo Verde and legal residents are exempt. ECOWAS citizens are visa-exempt yet must still complete it.

It's required for all foreign air travellers over two years old.

The fee is CVE 3400.

Described as pre-registration rather than permission, and applications are 'approved', but whether one can be refused is not established.

Airlines check for it before you board, so travelling without it can mean not flying at all.

Good to know

Predates Seychelles by four years and is the earliest African pre-travel authorisation found so far. Also suspended visa-on-arrival for 96 nationalities from 1 January 2026. The authorisation is valid for a year, unlike Seychelles' single-trip window. Whether it can be completed on arrival is NOT established, the consular portal directs travellers to pre-register up to five days before travel, and carriers check before boarding. Assume it must be done in advance.

Still confirming: Confirm the TSA amount and whether it varies by nationality; Whether an EASE application can be refused; Whether it can be completed on arrival at all, or whether pre-departure is mandatory
