An Aerial View travel guide

Do you need to apply before you fly?

A growing number of African countries now ask you to apply for entry permission online before you travel, even without a visa. Miss it and you can be turned away at boarding.

We track what each scheme actually asks for, so you can sort it out before you book, not after.

Mandatory eVisa/eTAS for all foreign visitors

Somalia's Electronic Visa and Travel Authorization System (eVisa/eTAS) launched 28 August 2025 and became mandatory for all foreign visitors, including infants and children, from 1 September 2025. No nationality exemptions have been reported so far.

It's required for all foreign visitors, of any nationality including African.

Not established.

You can't get it on arrival. It has to be sorted before you fly.

Applications are adjudicated through evisa.gov.so before an entry permit is issued.

Good to know

One of the most recent and comprehensive African pre-travel authorisation launches found in this research, Kenya's eTA exemption explicitly still excludes Somalia and Libya on security grounds, so a Somali eTAS traveller headed to Kenya faces a visa, while inbound to Somalia now faces a universal eVisa of its own.

Still confirming: Confirm fee, processing time and any nationality exemptions since launch; Whether the AVOI score will be revised downward once the mandatory system is captured in the next report
