Only Kenya and Djibouti hold visa-free access in 2026. Citizens of every other African country must obtain a visa before travelling, or a visa on arrival where eligible. Visa on arrival is reported to be restricted for some nationalities, including Nigerians.

Good to know
The e-Visa is reported to operate only for air arrivals through Bole International Airport and select regional airports. Land arrivals must apply through an embassy, which matters for a country with long land borders. Nigeria is reported to be among the nationalities with restricted visa-on-arrival access, making Ethiopia the fourth country in this tracker where Nigerian travellers face a materially different route from their neighbours, after Mozambique, Tanzania and Zimbabwe.
