A growing number of African countries now ask you to apply for entry permission online before you travel, even without a visa. Miss it and you can be turned away at boarding.

Citizens of Libya and Somalia must get Kenya's eTA (electronic travel authorisation, an online permission to travel) at least 3 days before they fly.

Good to know

Since 5 October 2026, visitors to Kenya must buy the government's travel health insurance, even if they don't need an eTA. It costs USD 44 for adults and USD 22 for children, plus small fees, and lasts 90 days. Buy it online at insurance.ecitizen.go.ke before you fly, as airlines may ask to see it at check-in. Insurance from your own country doesn't count. You don't need it if you are a citizen of an East African Community country, live in Kenya, or are only changing planes.
